What to record before asking for a door quote
A useful first brief does not need to pretend to be a technical survey.
The best early door enquiry explains the project clearly without presenting uncertain measurements as final facts. Start with photographs of the opening from outside and inside, plus a wider view of the facade. Include the frame, threshold and anything close enough to affect operation.
Record approximate dimensions if you can do so safely, and label exactly what you measured. The visible leaf, frame and structural opening are different things. A number without that context can create more confusion than an honest note saying it needs confirmation.
Add the choices you already know: preferred appearance, privacy needs, quantity, location and an approximate project schedule. Separate essential requirements from ideas you are still exploring. A supplier can respond more usefully when those two lists are not mixed together.
Final dimensions, installation conditions and technical suitability need professional verification before ordering. Think of your first brief as a conversation starter. Its job is to help the next person ask the right questions, not to replace the site assessment that a made-to-fit exterior assembly may require.
