Planning the day your front door is replaced
A little preparation makes the handover easier for everyone.

A replacement door project temporarily turns a familiar entrance into a work area. Ask the installer what access is needed, how the opening will be managed and what you should move before the appointment. The exact sequence depends on the building and the agreed scope.
Clear the nearby hallway and porch without disturbing anything structural or electrical. Protect household routines too: think about pets, children, deliveries and anyone who normally uses the front entrance. Agree on an alternative route if one will be needed.
Before work begins, confirm who handles unexpected conditions discovered around the old frame. Knowing how additional work is discussed and approved is more useful than assuming the existing opening will be perfect.
At handover, ask for a demonstration of locking and operation, the relevant care documents and any remaining adjustments or finishing work in writing. Do not rush this conversation because the new door looks good. Understanding how to use and maintain the assembly is part of receiving it, and a clear record makes later questions much easier to resolve.
